I still feel sick. For a short while last night I felt better so I thought the cold/stomachaches might end, but no. I can't think very fast and I just want to go back to bed. I haven't even been reading much lately, which is very odd for me. I feel so uncreative and boring. I expect it's just a phase that will end. I missed seeing friends today because I wasn't feeling well. It's been hard for me to keep up with eating, too. I did finish some pomegranate ice cream earlier today.

A year ago I was in Alaska, the year before that I was at Disney World. I wish I were at one of those two places now, or somewhere else. Not at home sick:P

I have been getting stomachaches since going off one of my medications, but it's not too bad. I do seem to have either a cold or bad allergies today. It discourages me from being productive. I didn't leave the house today. We've watched some Xena today, which always makes me happy:-) Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel better because I might see my friends April and Phil. I'm not sneezing as much now, at least...

If everyone knew 1984 was when everything was going to happen, why was no one prepared?
Hexennacht is an alternate universe MWPP game set in 1985; a world where Gellert Grindelwald is now the Minister of Magic for all of Europe, and Muggleborn wizards live in fear of the Black Caps, Grindelwald's personal army, charged with keeping the Muggles and wizards alike in line. Hexennacht begins with the latest decree restricting magic allowed by Muggleborn wizards to the simplest forms of magic, while the purebloods are allowed to get away with murder. With the Death Eaters on the run, Voldemort in Azkaban with no hope of getting out, and the Order in hiding, along with the remains of their single ally, a former terrorist organization, is there any hope of restoring Europe to a land of tolerance?

I've been reading a bunch of Sandman Presents graphic novels and enjoying the continuance of the Sandman universe. I also have a couple other Neil Gaiman graphic novels to read (non-Sandman-related). They're checked out from the library and I'm trying to go through them as fast as I can. I have other books checked out, too. I actually washed my kitchen floor today, so I'm not just reading.

I'm glad I get to see Neil Gaiman on October 2:-)

[info]101in1001 is a community for people taking on the challenge of completing 101 tasks in 1001 days. Insane, yes. Impossible, yes. Fun, oh yes indeed! Join [info]101in1001 and see what you can accomplish!

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Today has been up and down. I received Brian Froud's Faeries in the mail today, and I'm just about to start reading it. I had a lot of hectic phone conversations and in-person waiting. I had to interact with a very unpleasant government worker today. Ugh. I'm glad that's over. I let my mother handle that stuff whenever possible. I also ruined a shirt I loved:-( It's cream and I washed it with a red dress. I'm really disappointed about that. I'll probably take more Klonopin before bed.

Saturday I went to Brookfield Zoo with Michael. It was really hot, though, and I was dizzy, so we only stayed a couple hours. We'll go back for longer in the autumn. We did get pictures, though, and saw a baby giraffe:-) I saw Michael's aunt again (who got us in for free -- she's a zoo member).

Sunday Michael and I went with my mother and her boyfriend out south to go boating on the Illinois River. More pictures were taken, though I still have to get the pictures from our last trip. I went tubing and got very sunburned on my legs. I hope it doesn't take them long to go back to pale. I apparently don't tan as an adult (I did when I was 11 and younger). This was also a fun trip, though Michael went home afterwards:-(

During the weekend I managed to read Pamela Dean's Tam Lin, based on the Scottish ballad. I really liked the book, though the fantasy part really didn't happen until the end (most of it focused on the characters' college experiences). I have a whole lot of books waiting for me. Since I don't want to move due to sunburn, I hope to get a lot more reading done today:-)

I also just ordered Michael his claddagh ring (he gave me one and now I'm giving him one).

I wish I were by nature a calm and easy-going person who didn't have a panic attack every time things didn't go as planned. I get things very set in my mind and I hate change. When I'm anticipating something and a turn for the worse happens, I mentally and emotionally collapse. I can't handle the situation and I just want to thrust the situation into other people's hands so they can deal with it. I can be patient, I can be hardworking, but when my solid foundation has a crack in it I feel the whole building of myself and my world is collapsing. I obsess, I cry, I stay in bed, I run away until action can be taken, I fall to pieces. I wish this were something I outgrew. Maybe eventually this is an issue I will overcome but so far it's something that still plays a huge part in how I live my life (adding to my anxiety) and still causing me all kinds of practical problems.

Today I got some confusing not-so-fun-mail as well as some really fun mail (2 books -- gifts from a friend!). One was on totems and one is based on a fairy tale and is called East (Based on East of the Sun, West of the Moon). I already read the totem book. I relate to the idea of having totems and here are three I relate to in different ways, rabbit being the more generalized one.

MD is a community dedicated to Marvel and it's drabbles and fanfiction.
Everyday at midnight (eastern time) a new challenge will go up in which everyone can partake whenever they feel the need.
Then each Sunday there will be a weekly challenge, again where everyone can participate in.
We also have a bunch of Tables Challenges you can do whenever you feel like it.
Then the 1st of every month there will be a special month long challenge.

Good Things that happened today:

1. Received (and began reading/listening in the background to matching songs) Tori Amos' Comic Book Tattoo
2. Received the Tori Amos Boys For Pele cd as a gift
3. Worked a little on my short story
4. Received my Snow White locket in the mail
5. Michael won me The Little Endless Storybook from ebay at the cost of $11.50 including shipping (it's out of print)
6. Talked with a friend I hadn't talked to in awhile
7. Bought tickets for the Neil Gaiman Graveyard Tour in Downer's Grove (Chicago area), including signed Graveyard Book
8. Read an enjoyable fairy tale by George MacDonald
9. Less bloating than yesterday

After I finish Comic Book Tattoo I will make a list of my favorites and my least favorite comics in the book:-)

I had to get rid of some old My Little Ponies due to mold from flooding:-( That is very sad. I get very attached to things and tend to hoard. I especially am close to things from my childhood. They had been in the basement and the basement flooded.

Fantasy recs: Lois McMaster Bujold [aŭg. 25-a, 2008|09:39 am]

Although she's probably better known for her Vorkosigan series, Lois McMaster Bujold has also written a number of fantasy novels and I wanted to rec one particular trilogy - I would start by saying, though, that it's only really a trilogy because it has three books (so far) all set in the same universe. It'll probably be easier to read them in order but it's not completely necessary to do so.

The books I'm talking about are The Curse of Chalion, Paladin of Souls and The Hallowed Hunt.

I didn't realise until recently that Paladin of Souls won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, but it's richly deserved. Of the three books, it's certainly my favourite, but they're all good! Bujold has talked about wanting to write two more in this universe, and I hope she does...
