| | Viola - Little Girl (Orginal Kyle Smith Club Mix) | ] | The porch light just turned on on its own. I saw it come on through the window. And then I looked at the light switch that controls it and it's flipped on.
I've seen that happen a number of times before--where I'll suddenly notice that switch or the one next to it (which currently has no use) is on, and I won't remember turning it on. It surprises me when it happens, but I'll figure I just flipped it on and forgot. As for the useless switch, I just tell myself, "I must've just bumped into it." It's weird, though, because I don't use the porch light switch often, and tonight, I'm pretty sure I had it turned off.
And never have I seen the light suddenly come on like that. Now that is just... creepy.
I should start to keep track of when I turn the switches on or off to see if something weird really is going on or if it's just me being a spaz. |

| | not all here | ] | The good news: Michael came to visit me yesterday. We went cruising north of here. Then we went to the gym. Then we went walking around once it stopped raining.
The bad news: I didn't get pictures. I should have even brought the camera during our drive, because of some beautifully decorated overpasses between here and Espanola. Also, we missed just about every tourist attraction. But I will get pictures one of these days. It also rained for quite a wihle, which is another part of the reason I didn't get pictures.
The good news: Today I went out and got myself a Nintendo DS and two games--a Zelda game and Mario 64. It's nice to have a new toy. I'm really enjoying the Zelda game. I just hope I don't get too addicted, because I've seen how attached people get to these. It's still charging right now--it seems to be taking forever to charge--but I tried it out to make sure it worked. I was terrified to buy it because I'm still scared to spend any money. I know what it's like to be out of work, depend on others for food and shelter, and feel like you must cling to every cent as your bank account dwindles to almost nothing. I also always feel a compulsion to save money because "what if something very expensive happens." But I told myself that it's okay to get a toy every once in a while, and you only live once.
The bad news: I don't feel good today. I've been feeling nauseated and dizzy since this afternoon. I still feel really weak. I wonder if it's because of something I ate. I hope to be back to normal tomorrow. |

The granola turned out pretty good. It smelled great when it was cooking too. It won't "stick together," however, so I think it would be great as a cereal. I'd be eating it as such if I had any oatmilk or almond milk around. I think I also put a few too many nuts in it.
I adapted it from niap_si_efil's suggestions.

I'd like to begin this post with a local-business promo. If you're ever in The City Different and you need a chocolate fix, go to Kakawa Chocolate House on Paseo de Peralta. These chocolate specialists have a whole selection of truffles, brownies, snacks, desserts, and rich chocolate drinks. Today I went there and sampled some of their drinks--chocolate blends that are centuries old, some of them infused with things like citrus or chile. I had a big serving of their Marie Antoinette elixir and am still feeling all YUM from it. I heartily recommend the Marie Antoinette drink. Many of their chocolates are sugar-free and dairy-free, too. They aren't loaded with sugar like candy bars.
I went to the Genoveva Chavez Community Center. It wasn't hard to find. I wish I had checked it out sooner, because it looks like a swell place. I ice skated for more than an hour. I hadn't been ice skating since circa 1997, so I was clinging to the wall for a while. Also, I think my skates weren't fitting so well, because they were hard on my ankles. I had fun, though. However, some kids were really tearing up the ice, so after a while it was like skating on gravel, and I fell and hit my knee. It still hurts a little. That was my last chance to ice skate for the next two weeks, since they're going to close tomorrow.
It looked like they had a super-fun pool. It had a big water slide and was somewhat like a mini-waterpark. As soon as they open again, I'm going to go swimming there and feel like a kid again.
I was out most of the day because I've been trying to be active, and I also shopped until I dropped. Now I'm going to try to make my own granola for the first time, so I won't have to keep buying that ten-dollar granola. I'm going to try sweetening it with agave nectar. Let's see how hideous it turns out. I also really need to work on my projects for the rest of the day. And clean. |

| | Digital Underground - Oregano Flow (Gumbo Soup Mix) | ] | I hope my LoudTwitter updates aren't annoying you all. They probably are annoying somebody. :)
The reason why I have been going a little Twitter-crazy is because it's more suited to my thinking style. I know I can really go on at length if I want to, but for a lot of moments in life, I just want to keep my thoughts brief and to the point. I find it a lot easier to do that in the Twitter format--otherwise, they just fall to the wayside, eternally unblogged, rather than ending up in a million daily mundane little posts.
(For those of you following my mirror on InsaneJournal, you're not seeing these--I only have them set up for the other blog. One of you is following me on Twitter anyway, and I'm not sure if I can set it up for two blogs.)
I don't think I'm going to have time to go to Kinko's today, unfortunately. Picture scanning will have to wait until next week. But I am determined to get my activity in today. I want to go ice skating. One of the gyms here in town has a skating rink! I haven't been ice skating in many years, but every time I've gone, I've really enjoyed it. I hope they're open at the time they said they were. I also hope I don't get lost on the way, because I've never been to that gym before and this town's layout has a way of turning you upside down. People give me directions, but I just can barely comprehend oral directions at all. To me, it's just "Blah blah blah turn left at Trader Joe's blah blah Paseo de Peralta blah blah McDonald's blah make a left at the stop sign blah blah."
There is some tourist flypaper near here right now. The Indian Market. I don't know if I'm going to go to that either, but if I do, I'll bring a camera so I'll fit right in with the tourists.
Michael wants to come visit me tomorrow. We're going to go swimming, and then we're planning on going to Espanola. I really don't think there is much to do there, but we're gradually exploring the northern NM communities, one at a time. |

It's actually starting to get cold out. And you know what? I'm just thrilled. There was a bite in the air yesterday, and a rather chilly wind today. And yet it STILL gets hot in here. I think this place just traps heat.
Today was mostly consumed by laundry. I slept in a bit, went and donated blood, and then had mountains and mountains of laundry today. Therefore, I spent most of the day at the laundromat. I actually had to go twice. I was probably overextending myself by hauling all those piles around right after giving blood, too. It really sucked. It's a good thing I checked out a book at the library and brought it along. I may hate going to the laundromat and listening to the cheesy music as I wait a couple of hours, but I've decided to try to make the best of it by reserving that time for reading fiction, which is something I know I need to do more of. I started reading Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. So far, the story hasn't really grabbed me, except for some steamy sex. But it's so well-written. Whenever I read a book that skillfully written, I get a tad jealous. "I wish I could write like that!"
And then I went home and had to spend like 2 hours ironing! Ugh! I hate having to iron. It is SO time-consuming. So right now is really the first significant free time I've had all day. I keep thinking about how today I could have gotten so much work done on my project. Oh well.
I've decided to start exploring recipes. I'm no chef by any means, and most of the things I know how to cook are very simple. But I know a few recipes that might be of interest to you guys. A third recipe is soon to come.

I want to make banana bread. I need to learn how to cook decently.
But I'm having trouble finding egg-free banana bread recipes that I know will work at a high altitude. I found one, but it requires "ground flax mixed with water," and I'm not sure what kind of flax they mean. Flaxseeds? Other recipes look pretty good, but I'm just scared the altitude will ruin them, since they don't come with high altitude instructions. I found a resource that might help me, but still.
Anyway, here is one of the things that made me lol today (people who are afraid of vomiting beware): Hungover Cloud. Thanks, wolf359nmt.
I am actually somewhat emetophobic, but I'm not bothered by seeing pictures of vomiting. I'm just afraid of it happening to me. |

New food addiction: 2 Moms in the Raw Blueberry Granola. It's raw, gluten-free, made with agave instead of high fructose corn syrup... and it is some of the most delicious stuff I have ever tasted. It's so hard to believe that something that tastes this good is good for you. And unlike the other foods I've been addicted to, I don't feel guilty about eating this. I only feel guilty about its effect on the pocketbook. It's not cheap. This is why I'm now trying to conserve it.
I'm not on a raw foods diet. That would really make a dent in the pocketbook. But this is a great snack I discovered by chance. I've been looking for healthy snacks to nosh on when I get the munchies at work. Carrots don't work as a snack for me, because all they do is make me feel more famished the more of them I eat--I think they screw up my blood sugar. I usually snack on nuts at work, but I honestly don't like nuts very much. They're a boring snack. Sometimes I eat raisins too, but I don't like raisins that much either. I don't want to bring the blueberry granola to work, because I'd scarf down the whole bag before you know it. Anyone got any other snack ideas?
I used to dislike strawberries because of my texture issues about food. The seeds really bothered me. But now I'm slowly learning to enjoy them somewhat and (sort of) get past the ickiness of the seeds. I'm also experimenting with other berries, and they're not bad. I try to eat spinach, peas, and broccoli. I don't like them, but I can eat them. I doubt I'll ever be able to eat tomatoes or large onion portions, but I'm trying to get myself to eat more of the fruits and veggies that I can stand to eat. I'm still scared to eat a lot of them, honestly, because the taste and texture of a lot of fruits and vegetables is hard for me to handle. Vegetables particularly. |

| | The Bucketheads - These Sounds Fall Into My Mind | ] | Last night I was so hot that I slept horribly. HORRIBLY. The sheets were sticking to me and keeping me up. My throat's also been a bit sore, but I don't think it's the horrible sore throat people at work have been getting. I think it has something to do with the heat and not sleeping well. The new mattress is nice, but unfortunately, it makes for a much hotter bed than the airbed did. The weather has actually been mostly temperate outside, it just gets hot and stuffy inside, and I can't even open half my windows anymore because I think the increased humidity of monsoon season swelled them shut. I am so ready for summer to be done, and I can't wait to start freezing my ass off. This bed is so warm that it would be great to have in the winter. Just not right now.
This reminds me. I need a new coat. My favorite orange coat is wearing out and I don't even know where it is. I also have a leather jacket. I want to get rid of it. I have never felt comfortable wearing it. Honestly, I bought it in a hurry before a job fair when it was on sale. It looked good on me and was warm enough, but it also stinks like leather. I also need to find new shoes. |

Boy, did it rain today. It started right before I left work. It rained so hard that using an umbrella was hardly any protection. By the time I reached the courtyard, it had turned into a lake, and my pants and shoes were waterlogged. I guess this is what I get for being too hot a month ago and wishing it would rain. Now it's cool most of the time, and often either raining or thinking about raining. I really like it when it rains, and afterward, when it's cool and invigorating out.
Tonight is a night reserved for kicking back and working on my writing. My shoes and backpack are still soaked near the door.

You know what's frustrating?
I copied my files, including my music, onto an external hard drive. And then I copied most of the contents of the external hard drive onto the lappy. Then I installed iTunes, and when it detected the music, it got really screwed up. Also, some of my music appears in the library but is missing when you try to play it. Some of my other music is missing altogether. I figured out the reason behind some of the missing music--it was in a folder I forgot to copy over--but I don't understand why some of the other music either has those exclamation points or just doesn't appear in the library. And some songs appear three times, too, with exclamation poings by some of them. I have no idea why. I'm tempted to just delete a bunch of the music and start from scratch so it won't be such a wreck. That would be a time-consuming bear of a task, knowing how I have way too much music. Now I'm wishing that I hadn't started using iTunes. My music was a lot more organized before then, and you knew if it was there or not! The external hard drive may have screwed up, too.
